Rev. Emily Guthrie is our Rector. Emily exudes joy and is a passionate, collaborative leader who believes in the transformative power of faith. She’s creative and celebratory and has a vibrant and loving presence. As a pastor, Emily has a love for people of all ages, their contributions, gifts and presence in life of congregation. As a preacher, she seeks to connect scripture, our lives and spiritual journeys. She’s also a committed servant leader in the community and brings a wealth experience as an administrator and manager. She most recently served as the Assistant Rector at St. Margaret’s in Washington, DC and also spent more than 10 years leading the Capitol Hill Group Ministry, a non-profit in DC. Emily has a B.A. from Princeton University and a Master of Divinity from the Yale Divinity School.Emily and her husband Michael love the outdoors, be it in the garden, the woods or the beach.
Overall, she has an abiding faith and feels called to work with us to manifest God’s love, justice and compassion at Christ Church and in the world. email

Ms. Ann Enkiri serves as the Children’s Ministries Coordinator for Christ Church Parish. email
Ms. Madison Chase, our youth minister, graduated from UMBC’s Honor College in May 2016 with a BA in Political Science. During her time in college, she was a Resident Advisor, a member of the Lutheran-Episcopal Campus Ministry, and an intern at the Mayor’s Office of Homeless Services in Baltimore. She is currently pursuing a Masters of Social Work at the University of Maryland with a concentration on Clinical Behavioral Health.
- During her time at Christ Church, Madison has guided the youth group in discussing current events, world faiths, and how God calls us to be in relationship with others. She has taken our teens on countless outings for community service projects and fellowship events, and has led them on mission trips to Rutland, VT, and Queens, NY. Madison also teaches confirmation class for interested high school students.Madison has lived in the Kensington area her whole life, and before college, attended CCPK and sang with the choir for two years. In addition to singing, she plays the guitar, ukulele and piano. She is an alumna of Walter Johnson High School (’12), where she was a Girl Scout and an active member of the speech and debate team.
In her spare time, Madison enjoys reading (everything from Tolkien and Vonnegut to Shakespeare and Whitman); spending time with animals, especially her cat Beans, her dog Archie, and her axolotl Micta; hitting sales at the mall with her sisters Carly and Paige; and spending time in the great outdoors. email
Organist and Choir Master
Dr. Theodore M. Guerrant (Teddy), a native of College Park, Georgia, made his first public appearance as a pianist at the age of four on Atlanta television. Teddy began formal piano studies with Regina Pudney at age five and organ studies at age eleven with Frank Willingham.
By the time he was a high school senior at Woodward Academy as a nephew and student of Eliza Holmes Feldmann, artist-in-residence at Brenau College in Gainesville, Georgia, Teddy was playing five church services as well as five choral rehearsals each week.
From there he went on to receive five degrees in music: the Bachelor of Music cum laude in piano and the Master of Fine Arts in harpsichord from the University of Georgia (Athens); the Master of Music in piano from the University of Wisconsin (Madison); the Doctor of Musical Arts in piano performance-literature from the University of Maryland (College Park); and the Graduate Performance Diploma in organ from the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore). He was the recipient of several scholarships, assistantships and fellowships. He studied additionally in Buriton, England, with Denise Lassimonne.
After 17 years at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church in Washington, DC, Teddy currently serves as the Organist-Choirmaster at Christ Church, in addition to being the Saturday Vigil Mass Organist at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Derwood; Assisting Organist at the University of Maryland Chapel; and rehearsal assistant/accompanist for the Central Maryland Chorale, the Federal City Performing Arts Association, and the National Philharmonic Chorale at Strathmore. He is on the teaching staff of the University of Maryland School of Music as a coach-accompanist, and makes his home in the historic district of Laurel, Maryland. email
Mr. Peter Hanke hails from Long Island, NY and has lived in the Bethesda area for more than 10 years. He holds Masters degrees in both Divinity and Communications, and has served as a hospital chaplain at GW Hospital and the NIH. Most recently, Peter served as a communication consultant with the Defense Health Agency, coordinating and moderating educational webinars for Service and Veterans Administration chaplains on psychological health-related topics, to better facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration in supporting our service members.Peter lives in Parkwood with his wife, Joanne and his daughter, Lizzie. email.
Mr. Lenord Hawkins has been the sexton at Christ Church for a quarter century, keeping our building in order. Lenord sets up our spaces for various meetings and provides janitorial services for the many groups and people that come to Christ Church.
Ms. Mary Mutisya serves in the Nursery for infants and very young children during the Sunday 10:00 am service.
